Wicknell Chivayo has once again made headlines by gifting veteran Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) journalist, Reuben Barwe a luxury vehicle and cash donation.

Chivayo presented Barwe with a fully paid 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser VXR LX 300 Series and US$100,000 in cash, recognizing his over 30 years of dedicated service to the national broadcaster.

In a social media post, Chivayo praised Barwe for his enduring commitment to journalism, recalling how his distinctive sign-off — “Rrrrrrrrueben Barwe… ZBC News, Harare!” — has become a household name in Zimbabwe.

Chivayo shared that he grew up watching Barwe since 1987 and noted how his unique reporting style resonated across generations.

“You gained so much fame for your unique style of reporting… Everyone would imitate your unmistakable and catchy style,” Chivayo wrote.

He further highlighted Barwe’s role in keeping the nation informed through significant moments such as independence celebrations, Heroes Days, and Defence Forces Days. Despite facing criticism and threats over the years, Barwe remained steadfast in his work, Chivayo emphasized.

The gift of the vehicle is available for collection at Faramatsi Motors, and the cash gift has been transferred through Chivayo’s lawyer. Chivayo concluded his tribute by encouraging Barwe to continue elevating Zimbabwe’s image and inspiring pride among Zimbabweans.

Barwe has not yet issued a public response, but social media reactions have been swift, with many praising the gesture and celebrating Barwe’s contributions to Zimbabwean journalism.
