After months of intense protests against his alleged rigging in the disputed Mozambican elections, Daniel Chapo has been sworn in as Mozambique’s President under the banner of the ruling Frelimo yesterday.
Upon his swearing in, Daniel Chapo promised to shrink the size of government ministries , tackle youth unemployment and prioritise health and education
Mozambique has been in chaos following the October, 9 elections result, which the opposition leader Venâncio Mondlane has branded fraudulent and not a reflection of the will of the people.
Whilst the SADC election observer missions gave the Mozambican elections thumbs up, Western observers reckoned they did not pass the free and fair test noting some glaring disparities . The official results say Mondlane came second to Chapo and Frelimo denied the accusations of electoral fraud.
Frelimo has been ruling Mozambique since the end of war against Portuguese colonial rule in 1975.
