Duliz (5) vs ZRP Gwanda (4)

DULIBADZIMU United FC youthful keeper Takudzwa Market was the toast of the day as his team beat ZRP Gwanda 5–4 on penalties after a 1–1 draw at regulation time in their opening match of the Munhumutapa Cup at Dulibadzimu Stadium on Saturday.

Coming in as a substitute at the stroke of time Market stepped straight into off8ce and did just what the doctor ordered.

The shotstopper stretched full length to his right and parried away the first penalty as the teams started the shootout following a deadlock.

He appeared to have scared his next penalty taker who skied his shot way above mark much to the joy of the crowd cheering Market on his first appearance at Dulibadzimu.

He had given his side a comfortable 3 – 1 lead blown when David Tito had his penalty saved at 3 – 1 giving a lease of life to the Cops who went on to level the score after beating Market thrice.

But in the sudden death Market happened again and stopped a shot to win for his side.

The hosts had started brightly, forcing early efforts on target while visitors ZRP Gwanda bench told their players to settle.

Dulibadzimu’s pressure paid off in the 33rd minute when Phumudzo Muleya struck a well-taken shot that tore the ageing nets, sparking wild celebrations from the home bench.

ZRP Gwanda responded quickly. In the 39th minute, Peter Gore (13) leveled the score using his chest, sending their fans into celebration and ensuring the sides went into halftime tied.

After the break, ZRP Gwanda made a triple substitution in a bid to control the game and hold the draw. Dulibadzimu later made a crucial change in the 82nd minute, introducing a young 19 year old goalkeeper, Market Takudzwa who proved decisive in the shootout with a key save.

With no further goals in regulation time, the match went to penalties, where Dulibadzimu held their nerve to win 5–4.

Dulibadzimu head coach Polite Bhegedhe praised his side’s progress. “Our team is improving compared to the last game. We thank our fans for their support it helped us win,” he said.

ZRP Gwanda coach Morris Chiwara said he was frustrated with officiating.

“I am disappointed. There was a clear penalty that was not given. It felt like the result was decided before the match,” he said.
