RESIDENTS of Filabusi District are expected to access registration services locally once the Filabusi Registry Building is completed, following renewed progress on a project that has experienced repeated delays since its launch in 2004.
The registry building, which stalled in 2006 and again after a revival attempt in 2019 has been resuscitated through renewed government intervention and is now 65 percent complete, with authorities indicating it is on track for completion by the end of February 2026.
Upon completion, the facility will allow residents to process National Identity Cards, birth certificates and passports within the district, significantly reducing the need for long-distance travel to access these services.
Matabeleland South Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Albert Nguluvhe toured the site this week, to assess progress saying the project reflects government’s focus on completing stalled infrastructure that directly affects service delivery.
Department of Public Works said carpentry works are currently underway, with 24 general hands and six skilled workers engaged on site.
The department said additional skilled labour would help accelerate progress toward completion.
Traditional leaders and senior officials from the Insiza Rural District Council welcomed the progress, saying the facility would ease pressure on residents who have long faced challenges accessing civil documentation.
Hon Nguluvhe expressed confidence that the project would be completed within the set timeframe and said he would return to assess the finished building.
The Filabusi Registry Building forms part of broader efforts to ensure that essential government services are more accessible at district level.
