The 1st Edition Bulldogs Handball Tournament kicked off today at Vhembe High School in Beitbridge, bringing together eight teams from across Zimbabwe for two days of exciting action, community spirit, and youth development.
The tournament features five men’s teams hosts Bulldogs, made up of former Vhembe High School students, alongside BlueHood (Masvingo), Spartens (Harare), MSU (Gweru), and Beitbridge Select.
On the women’s side, Vhembe Celtics, Panthers, and MSU are competing for honors.
For the Bulldogs, returning to their old school as hosts carries special meaning.
“This event is about giving back to the community that raised us,” said Bulldogs assistant coach Dominic Ndou.
“As former Vhembe High School students, we are proud to inspire the next generation. Handball taught us discipline, teamwork, and leadership and we want young people here to see that they can use sport as a tool for growth.”
Ndou emphasized that the tournament is not just about trophies but about creating pathways for youth, while also strengthening the profile of handball in Zimbabwe.
The event has already drawn strong community support, with students, parents, and local fans turning up to cheer. Organizers hope this will become an annual tournament, cementing Vhembe’s reputation as a hub for handball development.
“Our dream is to see more players from Vhembe representing Zimbabwe on the regional and international stage,” Ndou added.
The action continues tomorrow as both men’s and women’s teams battle for glory.
