Former champions Ghana are on the brink of missing out on the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the first time since 2004.
The Black Stars have struggled to find their winning rhythm, despite having a roster filled with top-class players who compete in some of the world’s best leagues. Following their 2-0 defeat to Sudan during the October international break, Ghana’s fate appears to be slipping away with each passing game. They currently sit at the bottom of Group F, with just 2 points from 4 matches—10 points behind Angola, who have already qualified, 5 points behind Sudan, and 2 points behind Niger.
Ghana’s next fixture is against Angola tonight, and the Black Stars have significant work ahead if they hope to secure the second spot in Group F and qualify for AFCON 2025 in Morocco. The four-time champions last won the AFCON title in 1982, so failing to qualify for Morocco would extend their title drought to over 40 years.
Zimbabwe has its qualification destiny firmly in its hands whilst Kenya has to rely on results going its way in the last two rounds of matches starting with the game against the Warriors tonight.
