The average youthful musician in Zimbabwe is naturally lured into the world of Zimdancehall or Zimhiphop, two genres that are trending and ear catching amongst young people, and very few choose to go against the tide.
Rising musical gem, Tadiwanashe Chimanga is one of the few who have chosen to go against the crowd venturing into the world of gospel music.At just 20 years old, Chimanga is already making a name for herself in the gospel music industry.
Her musical journey began at Chingombe 2 Alheit High School, where she was encouraged by her teacher, Brother Tonderai Zizipa, to join the school’s choral group. After completing her secondary education in 2019, Chimanga informed her mother, Beauty Chimanga, of her decision to pursue a career in music.
“My mother has been my rock throughout my musical journey,she pays for my recordings and has always been there to encourage me,” said the songstress.
She also credits her uncle Chimanga’s Oliver Gotora for inspiring her into music and sees the likes Nyasha Mutonhori and Rudo Madindi as her role models on the Zimbabwean gospel music scene.
In 2020, Chimanga recorded her first single, and in 2021, she released her debut album, “Kuchema”, which features five tracks.
She has also collaborated with Lesly Chibhamu from Chinhoyi on a single titled “Alpha and Omega”, set to be released soon.
Despite facing challenges, including financial constraints and criticism from her peers, Chimanga remains resolute adding, “When my peers mock or downgrade me, it gives me strength, criticism makes one a better artist.”
According to the youthful musician, her ultimate goal is to user music to lift herself financially and bring her closer to God. She also hopes to build a children’s home and assist her church, the Methodist Church of Zimbabwe financially and spreading the gospel.
With her unique voice and unwavering dedication, Chimanga is a rough diamond with great potential to make a mark in the gospel music industry. As she prepares to release new music, Chimanga’s message to emerging artists is clear: “Never give up on your career. God loves you and has a purpose for you.”
Chimanga’s story is a testament to the power of hardwork and passion. Despite the odds against her, she remains committed to her music, inspiring other young people to pursue their dreams, no matter how impossible they may seem.Despite her stoke rising, she remains humble and grateful for the support from her family and fans.
