The government on Zimbabwe has rolled out the use of breathalysers at police roadblocks this festive season.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe (TSCZ), aims to target motorists who may be driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, significantly enhancing road safety across the nation.

Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona confirmed that additional breathalysers have been acquired to equip more police officers for this crucial task.

The government is committed to ensuring safer roads for all Zimbabweans, highlighting the dedication to reducing traffic-related incidents during this high-risk period.

Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe underscored the importance of police visibility and collaboration with other stakeholders in enforcing road rules effectively.

The initiative has garnered support from various organizations, including the Insurance Council of Zimbabwe (ICZ), which has contributed resources for the purchase of the breathalyser machines.

The introduction of breathalysers is expected to serve as a deterrent, encouraging motorists to adhere to road safety regulations and make responsible choices while driving.

Authorities are urging all road users to prioritise safety and remain vigilant, ensuring a safer holiday experience for everyone.
