Harare-Zimbabwe cement giant producer Khaya cement limited has applauded ZESA for uninterrupted power supply during their production times.
Addressing journalists during a media tour at Khaya Cement plant Manresa works in Harare on Wednesday Innocent Chikwata who is the company’s Chief Executive Officer said they are pleased with the way the utility company is handling their situation interms of power supply.
“As you see producing cement needs power so we are in a good relationship with Zesa each time they want to do their mantainance they will let us know and we will be prepared for that,”said Chikwata.
Chikwata also said plans for alternative power system like solar are at an advanced stage but currently they are using a back-up generator in the event of power blackout.
“We are planning to use solar energy as our alternative power system so that we cannot rely on with the generator,” said Chikwata.
Khaya cement limited also acknowledged the government efforts in supporting the cement industry as the government is also the major buyer of cement on infrastructure development such as roads rehabilitation as well as housing projects.
Previously known as Lafarge Cement Zimbabwe Limited before rebranded as Khaya cement in 2023 it has the biggest locally dry mortars plant which was commissioned by President Emmerson Mnangagwa in 2020.
It also installed a new Vertical Mill Plant (VCM) in 2022 at a tune of twenty million dollars and was commissioned in 2023.
