Harare, Zimbabwe — The Minister of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services, Hon. Dr. T.A. Mavetera, officially opened the National Cyber Security Symposium at the University of Zimbabwe, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and innovation in safeguarding the nation’s digital environment.
Addressing the symposium, Mavetera expressed that the focus of this Symposium, theme demonstrates our shared dedication to making our country’s digital landscape safer. This will be achieved by utilizing the latest technologies and working together as a community.
“The theme for this Symposium, ‘Building Cyber Resilience through AI: Collaborative Security for a Secure Digital Future,’ reflects our collective commitment to securing our nation’s digital environment through cutting-edge innovation and collaborative efforts,” Mavetera stated.
In addition, the Minister also pointed out that As we make progress in technology, we also have the duty to protect our digital systems. It’s important to ensure that they are safe, strong, and able to handle the growing risks of cyber-attacks.
“With these advancements comes the responsibility to ensure that our digital infrastructure remains secure, resilient, and capable of withstanding the increasing threat of cyber-attacks,” she said.
Further She also emphasized that AI has the potential to revolutionize the approach to cybersecurity by improving the ability to detect threats early, automating response measures, and securing systems more efficiently.

Furthermore, she urged all stakeholders, including citizens and corporate leaders, to join forces in building a safe digital environment.
The Minister also highlighted the government’s commitment to fostering a secure AI landscape through the Cyber and Data Protection Act and the upcoming National Artificial Intelligence Policy.
