WARRIORS vice-captain and Wolves midfielder Marshall Munetsi has expressed disappointment after being left out of the recent AFCON final squad announced by coach Marian Marinica.

Munetsi recently picked up an injury during a Premier League match against Nottingham Forest.

In a statement, Munetsi said his club, Wolves, had communicated with the association, informing them that he was recovering well and had been offered medical support to ensure he could participate. However, he said the association made no follow-up communication and ultimately made a decision without clarity regarding his return.

“This one hurts, as representing the Warriors has always been a dream, and wearing our colours is the greatest honour of my career. AFCON would have been even more significant.
I had an injury recently, but my club, Wolves, communicated with the association that I was recovering well and even offered medical support to ensure that I could participate at the AFCON. Unfortunately, I received no follow-up communication, and decisions were made without clarity—speculation which wasn’t the case.
While I’m hurt, my unwavering support for the national team remains strong. I respect the coach’s decisions and stand behind the boys wholeheartedly. I will always be ready to defend the nation I love.
Go Warriors, go,” Munetsi’s statement reads.

Munetsi has been a key figure in the Zimbabwean midfield throughout the AFCON qualifiers.

Meanwhile, Jordan Zemura, one of the key players who featured in almost every AFCON qualifier, also expressed disappointment after being left out of the Warriors’ final squad.

With just 10 days to go before the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 kicks off in Morocco, every nation is hoping to start the prestigious tournament in style.
