POLICE in Harare on Friday ambushed and arrested nine suspected drug peddlers in the act receiving 300 kilogram dagga and other habit forming banned cough syrups all valued at $68 000.

Charles Kakomwe (34), Priscilla Chakacha (32), Rhoda Mazoro (49), Ngonidzash Mbundire (19), Terence Zvikwete (25), Pasco Muvhazhi (34), Denzel Lejala (20), Owen Kadzomba (18), and Prince Katsande (18) were caught at approximately 2345 hours as they took receipt at Aspindale Truckshop along Highglen Way.

Police spokesman Commissioner Paul Nyathi said police seized a staggering 300 kilograms of dagga packaged in various plastics and foodstuffs which include zapnax plastics.

He said authorities recovered 3,120 bottles of Astra Pain and 4,600 bottles of Broncleer Cough Syrup during the operation.

The total value of the seized drugs and substances is estimated at USD$68,000.

Nyathi further said , the police also impounded two vehicles in connection with the crime a Nissan Caravan (AFL 2986) and a Honda Fit (ADT 6539), alongside a Kombi (AGY 4687).

“Preliminary investigations reveal that the drugs were smuggled into Zimbabwe from neighboring countries,” Nyathi said.

“We reiterate that there is no going back in the fight against drug and substance trafficking and peddling in the country.”
