Zimbabwean socialite and UK-based renowned entrepreneur and CEO of Gain Group of Companies Olinda Chapel, popularly known as Mai Nandi, has ignited a wave of controversy and excitement on social media with her recent Facebook post asking, “How do I apply to be ZIFA president?” The provocative question has led many to speculate whether she intends to run in the upcoming ZIFA presidential elections scheduled for 2025.
With the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) requiring candidates to have at least five O-level qualifications, Chapel appears to meet this criterion, as she holds an LLB degree.
Some users interpreted her post as a lighthearted joke, while others offered sarcastic comments.
A post from Zimcelebs humorously suggested, “Maybe we will be called for Euro games as guests,” reflecting the mixed sentiments surrounding her aspirations.
Others took the opportunity to link her interest in football administration to her personal life, with one netizen quipping, “Least you start exchanging marrying players and coaches every month,” referencing her past relationships.
On the flip side, there are those who are rallying behind Chapel, expressing hope that her involvement could bring positive changes to Zimbabwean football.
“Perhaps our football teams will now have the capacity to travel with private jets while wearing expensive labels. Mai Nandi for president!!!” one enthusiastic supporter commented, envisioning a luxurious future for the national teams.
As the conversation unfolds, it remains to be seen whether Olinda Chapel will formally announce her candidacy for the ZIFA presidency. For now, her playful inquiry has certainly captured the public’s attention, igniting debates on the intersection of celebrity and sports governance in Zimbabwe.
