Zimbabwe business mogul, Wicknell Chivayo has pledged one year sponsorship worth USD 1 million for Premier Soccer league giants Highlanders FC alongside a curatorship to oversee the financial outlay. Bosso will receive USD 250 000 immediately.
Wicknell confirmed his sponsorship to the Zimbabwe ‘s Premier Soccer league club.
“In the recognition of beloved uncle ‘s wishes and my personal love for the game of football, it is my greatest pleasure to avail sponsorship worth USD 250 000 in cash to Highlanders, as my small token to assist the club in its various administrative requirements.
This is just but part of a broader sponsorship package of USD 1 million that will run over a year…,” Chivayo stated.
Addressing the issue of sponsoring the oldest club in Zimbabwe , Wicknell wrote , “ Bosso Ngenkani, Zimbabwe ‘s football history is very incomplete without mentioning the oldest club, Highlanders FC, founded in 1926 by King Lobengula ‘s grandsons, the club has grown into a phenomenon cultural icon that represents heritage, pride and unity, particularly for Bulawayo.
Meanwhile, Jabulani Nkomo who is also a business man in Bulawayo, has been appointed by Chivayo to the curator role to ensure the disbursement of the sponsorship is strictly in accordance with the club ‘s budget expenditures to support player welfare.
