As preparations for the forthcoming SADC summit to be hosted by Harare from the 8th to the 18th of August, a team from the regional body is in the country to get a first-hand appreciation of the country’s readiness to host the region.
The team, which is supposed to have arrived yesterday according to its itinerary, is set to check progress and meet various stakeholders including the committee responsible for the logistics of the Summit.
“During the visit, the Assessment Mission will engage with the Technical Committees responsible for the Summit preparations and finalise on logistical and other relevant issues. The Mission will, also, seek an update on the country’s state of preparedness to host the SADC Industrialisation Week that will be convened from 28 July to 2 August 2024 at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC), indicated a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.
The Ministry also reiterated Zimbabwe’s resolve to leave no stone unturned in her quest to host a successful summit.
“The Government of the Republic of Zimbabwe will continue to work closely with the SADC Secretariat to ensure that all the preparatory works are completed on time with a view to successfully host the forthcoming Summit.”
At the Summit, Zimbabwe is poised to take over the rotating Chairmanship of the regional bloc with President Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa getting the baton from President of the Republic of Angola, His Excellency João Lourenço.
