The South African Police Service has confiscated fake goods and apparels worth 2.6million rand in Johannesburg.
A statement by the South African Police indicate that an integrated team of SAPS and Brand holders conducted an intelligence operation which led the team to a warehouse where they discovered a large quantity of various kinds of counterfeit Disney goods.
“SAPS and Brand holders conducted an intelligence operation which led the them to a ware house in Fordsburg, Johannesburg. The team discovered a large quantity of various kinds of counterfeit Disney goods. They seized counterfeit Disney toys with an estimated street value of R2. 6 million and the confiscated goods were taken to a counterfeit depot for safe keeping and disposal, ” SAPS statement reads.
SAPS also highlighted that no suspects have been arrested and police investigation are still underway.
Meanwhile, a street vendor was arrested by the municipality police in Harare for selling fake and expired groceries.
The vendor ‘s repackaged products included milk packaged in South African branded containers and Zim gold branded packages showing the challenge of counterfeit goods has become a syndicated crime between the two countries..
The operation demonstrates SAPS commitment to eradicate the illicit trade in counterfeit goods and safe guarding their country ‘s economy including protecting consumers from illicit products.
