After months of anxious waiting, Starlink has finally gone live in Zimbabwe signalling a new era in the telecommunications sector of the Southern African nation.

When President Emmerson Mnangagwa announced Starlink would be allowed to operate in the country, the excitement generated was palpable as consumers of data revelled at the possibility of real competition coming in to challenge MNOs for long accused of fleecing consumers.

Now that it’s here , excitement has reached fever pitch , especially with the pricing of the kits around half to less compared to the black market charges which impatient consumers had to part with.

ZANU PF Patriots Chief Economist, Mahwani Kangausauru has branded the coming in of Starlink into the country a game changer which will greatly benefit outlyin areas with erratic network coverage.

“All said, Starlink will go a long way in Zimbabwe especially rural areas, mining and farming. It’s a game changer,” he said.

Though sharing the same optimism and excitement among Zimbabweans, the economist in Cde Kangausaru has expressed concern there has not been communication yet, on how the tech giant will be paying tax as users are being allowed to directly purchase their kits and pay their subscriptions straight to the United States of America.
