A 23-year-old from Mabvuku, Harare, has been sentenced to 5 years in prison for attempting to murder Troy Mubvumbi. Urayai was found guilty of stabbing Mubvumbi in the neck and shoulder with a knife and axe. He was sentenced and convicted by Concession Magistrates’ Court.
According to National Prosectuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), reports that at Potland farm, Mazowe the complainant was sleeping in the house in the company of his friend Elias Gundu. Sm Urayai came to the house where the complainant was and was shouting asking who had used his plate.
The complainant asked Urayai why he was shouting and Urayai told him that he had no right to ask him. Then Urayai pulled a knife from his pocket and stabbed the complainant once on the left side of the neck.
The complainant escaped and rushed to hide in the house.
Sam Urayai proceeded to the storeroom which was next to the house, grabbed an axe and returned back striking the complainant on the left shoulder before he fled from the scene.
The complainant was rescued by his friend and he sustained a deep cut on the neck and shoulder.
The NPAZ is urging members of the public to find peaceful ways of resolving disputes and avoid taking the law into their own hands.
