Businessman Wicknell Chivayo has once again ignited controversy by branding Acting President Constantino Chiwenga a “failed politician” via social media, intensifying the ongoing tensions within the ruling Zanu-PF party.

The rift between factions loyal to President Emmerson Mnangagwa and those perceived to support Chiwenga has deepened amid escalating public exchanges.

Chiwenga, who is currently acting as President Mnangagwa is on leave, spoke out against corruption within the party during a speech at the burial of former Deputy Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Justin Mupamhanga, held at the National Heroes Acre on Monday.

In his remarks, Chiwenga criticized corrupt party elements profiting from “ill-gotten wealth” and referred to them as having “growing big bellies.”

In what is alleged to be his response on Wednesday, Chivayo took to his X account to dismiss Chiwenga’s comments, asserting that he remains undeterred by “veiled threats” from the Acting President.

“I will always support President E.D. Mnangagwa and ZANU PF’s vision, and no individual, Big or Small, can instill fear in me to decide otherwise,” Chivayo stated.

The feud is compounded by emerging reports on social media of letters allegedly authored by Chivayo, requesting local banks allow him to withdraw up to US$20 million per month for various transactions.

Despite this, Chivayo has publicly disowned the letters.

As tensions escalate, all eyes are on the ruling party to see how these rifts will impact its governance and unity in the lead-up to future political events. The current state of affairs in the ruling reminds Zimbabweans of the famous tussle of power in the ruling party during the factional battles between the Lacoste and G40 factions.
