BEITBRIDGE district athletes on Tuesday went into camp at Tongwe High School ahead of the Matabeleland South provincial Athletics competition at Manama, Gwanda South.
The camp will run from Tuesday, 24 February to 2 March 2026 and will be for all track and field events.
Track and field events are a collection of athletic contests based on running, jumping, and throwing, typically held on a 400-meter running track and central grass field.
Key examples include 100m sprints, 4x100m relays, high jump, shot put, and javelins. Synonyms often include “athletics” (internationally) or “track-and-field”
A total of 88 athletes, 45 females and the remainder males were selected at the Beitbridge district competitions held at Chamnanga Secondary School on February 19 and 20, 2026
According to St Joseph’s Headmaster, Tavonga Gwauya, the team has three female and six male professional coaches.
“The team comprising 45 female and 43 male athletes is going to camp today and they have three female and six male coaches Athletes, ,” Gwauya said.
The selected athletes are drawn from various clusters, Beitbridge Central cluster with 27 athletes, Beitbridge West with 23 athletes, Beitbridge Northern cluster with 18 athletes, Beitbridge Southern with 12 athletes, and Beitbridge East with eight athletes.
Beitbridge North ‘s Tongwe High is having the highest number of selected athletes with 16.
The Beitbridge Central cluster includes St Mary’s, Fountain, Southern Cross, St Joseph, and Vhembe High School.
Beitbridge West includes Malikuwa, Zezani High School, Siyoka, and Kwalu.
The Beitbridge Southern cluster includes Swereki, Shashe, and Masera.
Beitbridge East includes Nuli, Malungudzi, and Tshitulipasi.
The Beitbridge Northern cluster includes Tongwe High School, Matshiloni, Lutumba, and Chamnanga Tshidixwa.
The provincial showdown will in turn select the best athletes for the national competitions in the track and field events.
