BEITBRIDGE District has assembled its team to represent it following a successful District Annual Schools Science and Arts Festival, DASAF, at St Joseph Secondary School on Friday.
Selected students will represent the district at the Provincial Annual Schools Science and Arts Festival, PASAF.
Learners from both primary and secondary categories participated in the exhibition across various disciplines including group dances, solo dances, poetry, baking and cooking, Mathematics Olympiads, Physics Olympiads and Chemistry Olympiads.
The DASAF competition is a platform that enables Beitbridge District to select its team to represent the district across various disciplines.
Speaking at the event, District Schools Inspector Mbofholowo Muleya, who was the guest of honor, said the festival is a pillar that builds balanced, innovative and responsible citizens.
He said the event helps to sharpen learners’ talents for the future, provides a way to communicate emotions and encourages self-expression.
“The beauty of expression is important. Learners communicate emotions and culture. It also preserves our culture. It is a seed for tomorrow’s discoveries,” Muleya said.
Host headmaster Tavonga Gwauya said, “DASAF winners from different schools will represent the district at PASAF before the end of June.”
In the categories that participated, Shalom Makaza and Angelina Matesva of St Mary’s will represent Beitbridge District at PASAF after winning the DASAF O-Level Physics Olympiad.
Pasipanodya Ndlovu and Charlene Kayera of St Mary’s also won the A-Level Physics category and earned a spot to represent Beitbridge District at PASAF.
Host teacher Tanyaradzwa Mabhengere emphasized the importance of DASAF, citing that learners need to discover their talents outside the classroom.
“These activities help our learners showcase their talents outside the classroom. They also serve as inspiration for other learners to know that you can earn a living through your talent,” Mabhengere said.
The festival created a platform for pupils across the district to participate and showcase their talent beyond the classroom.
DASAF gives learners the chance to explore gifts beyond the classroom and helps them discover their talent at an early stage.
