THE third edition of the Beitbridge Music Festival has taken on a powerful social mission, putting the fight against drug abuse at the centre of this year’s celebrations.

Happening at Catch 22 Bottle Store in Lutumba township, the festival has already drawn hundreds of people, with revellers gathering in large numbers to enjoy music while embracing a message aimed at tackling one of Zimbabwe’s growing concerns drug abuse among the youth.

Organised by Donzvo Entertainment and led by Shimron Sibanda, popularly known as DJ Shimza, the event is free for all, making it accessible to the wider community.

This year’s theme, “Say No to Drugs,” reflects a nationwide call to action as authorities and communities intensify efforts to curb substance abuse.

Speaking at the festival, DJ Shimza expressed concern over the increasing prevalence of drug use, noting that both young people and, in some cases, older members of society are being affected.

“Youth and even our elders are seen taking drugs, which is bad for our society. As the whole country, through our Government, is fighting against drugs, it is our duty as the youth to push the same message in our communities,” he said.

He said drug abuse can lead to criminal activities, including livestock theft, which has now become increasingly prevalent in Beitbridge.

The festival blends entertainment with advocacy, using music as a platform to spread awareness.

One of the standout moments came from Harare-based artist Richie Major, who lit up the stage with his performance of Say No to Drugs, a song carrying a strong message about the dangers of substance abuse and its impact on lives.

The event features a diverse lineup of performers across multiple genres, including gospel, all in delivering a unified message against drug abuse.

As the festival continues, organisers hope the initiative will resonate beyond the stage, inspiring behavioural change and encouraging young people to make healthier life choices.

The event is expected to conclude with an after-party, wrapping up a day that combines entertainment with a critical social cause.
