A Beitbridge woman, Sibongile Nyathi, has been granted a peace order against her husband, Muzi Dube, after alleging that he repeatedly assaulted and threatened her with violence.
The matter was heard before Magistrate Mbonisi Kaweni, who granted the order in default after Dube failed to appear in court on Wednesday this week.
Nyathi told the court that her husband, who is reportedly based in Musina, South Africa and frequently travels across the border as a Cross-Bordertrader, had been hindering her from going to work, assaulting her, and threatening her with violence.
In her application, Nyathi sought protection from further harassment and abuse, arguing that Dube’s conduct had negatively affected her safety and livelihood.
After considering the application and noting Dube’s absence, Kaweni granted the peace order in default.
The court ordered Dube not to assault, threaten, harass, or interfere with Nyathi’s movements, including preventing her from attending work.
The order to remain in force for five years.
