The bail hearing for Zimbabwe Independent editor Faith Zaba, who is in custody on charges of allegedly undermining the authority of or insulting the President, is scheduled for today at 11:15 a.m.
The State had requested a postponement of the bail hearing from its initial date to today, citing the need for time to review documents related to Zaba’s medical history. Zaba, who was reportedly on bed rest due to poor health, voluntarily presented herself to the police before being detained.
Her lawyer, Chris Mhike, argued for bail, emphasizing Zaba’s health concerns saying, “These allegations stem from a satirical piece published in a recent edition of the Zimbabwe Independent,” Mhike said. “The State claims the satire was deemed offensive to the authorities.”
