As Zimbabwe prepares for the upcoming elections for the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) presidency slated for early 2025, football fans from across the nation are uniting to endorse Warriors icon Peter Ndlovu as a leading candidate.

The endorsement follows FIFA’s appointment of a normalization committee, headed by Lincoln Mutasa, tasked with overseeing the management of national sports affairs and ensuring the elections proceed smoothly.

Former Minister of Energy and Power Development Fortune Chasi took to social media to publicly support Ndlovu, lauding his credentials and suggesting he is the leader Zimbabwean football desperately needs.

“Peter Ndlovu is the leader Zimbabwean football needs; his experience and deep understanding of the game will bring fresh perspectives to ZIFA. It’s time to restore our football glory,” Chasi stated on X (formerly Twitter).

The enthusiasm for Ndlovu among fans is palpable, with many believing he is well-respected and idolized by both current and former players. His connection with the players is seen as a critical factor that could foster chemistry and unity within the national team.

“As a football icon, Peter has inspired many on the field. Now he can inspire change off the field as ZIFA president,” one fan remarked.

However, Ndlovu is not the only candidate garnering support. Some fans are also rallying behind Walter Magaya, the owner of Yadah FC and a prominent figure within the sports community. Former Warriors legends, including Tapuwa Kapini and Knowledge Katsande, have expressed their belief that Magaya is also a worthy contender for the presidency. Supporters point to Magaya’s passion for sports, demonstrated through his recent signing of stars like Khama Billiat, and argue that he has the capability to improve the Zimbabwean football landscape.

In a country where football remains a beloved sport, fans are hopeful that the endorsements of such influential figures will lead to significant changes within ZIFA and contribute to the growth and development of football in Zimbabwe. As the electoral date approaches, it remains to be seen who will ultimately lead the charge in restoring the nation’s footballing pride.
