Harare — The Footballers Union of Zimbabwe (FUZ) has strongly condemned the assault of Yadah FC goalkeeper Godknows Gurure, who was allegedly attacked by a board member of his own club inside the changing room following their defeat to Ngezi Platinum Stars.

In a statement released on Saturday, FUZ described the incident as a “cowardly act of violence”, saying it was unacceptable and brought shame to the game.

“The changing room is meant to be a safe space for players, not a place where they are attacked by those who should be supporting them. No footballer should ever be subjected to physical or verbal abuse by club officials under any circumstances,” FUZ said.

The union called on the Premier Soccer League (PSL), the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA), and other relevant authorities to:

  • Launch an immediate investigation into the incident.
  • Hold the perpetrator fully accountable through strong disciplinary action.
  • Enforce stronger measures to protect the safety and welfare of players across all clubs.

FUZ stressed that footballers are workers who deserve respect, dignity, and protection, warning that the attack was not just on Gurure but on the rights of players and the values of the sport.

“We demand swift and decisive action to ensure such disgraceful conduct has no place in Zimbabwean football. We stand firmly in solidarity with Godknows Gurure and with all players who deserve to work in a safe and professional environment,” the statement read.

Neither Yadah FC nor the PSL had issued an official response by the time of publication.
