Harare – The Minister of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture has appointed a new Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) board in a move that underpins the commitment of the Ministry to ensure the growth of the sport and reaction sector in the country.
The Minister, Honourable Ancelem Sanyatwe has appointed the board giving them a mandate effective 8 July 2025 and running until July 7 2029.
With sport becoming a multi-billion industry, the board has its work cut out to ensure the country’s sport codes are run professionally and tap into the billions for the benefit of athletes and the country at large.
The eight member board has been appointed in accordance t o the provisions of Section 11(9) of the Public Entities and Corporate Governance Act and in full compliance with Section 5 of the Sports and Recreation Commission Act (Chapter 25:15), which outlines the framework for the composition and appointment of the Board.
According to a statement released by the SRC, the appointment of the new board signals the government’s unwavering commitment to fostering good govemance and effective leadership within public entities.
Compromising members with varied expertise and experience and led by Dr Nathaniel Madzivanyika, there are higher expectations that their leadership will be transformational especially in the emotive sporting industry.
“Their collective mandate will be to steer the SRC towards achieving ts objectives of promoting, developing and regulating sport and recreation in Zimbabwe,nurturing talent from grassroots to elite levels, improving sports infrastructure, enhancing athlete development programs, strengthening governance in national sports associations, securing sustainable funding for sports initiatives and promoting inclusivity across all sporting disciplines, notes a statement from the SRC.
The appointed board consist of Dr. Nathaniel Madzivanyika (Chairperson), Gwinyai. T. Mharapara, Hlengiwe Dube, Shingai. J. Rhuhwaya, Givemore Adzoka, Valentine. S. Mudenda Lillian. N. S. Chiara and David Simba.
The Ministry of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture has congratulated the incoming Board and saying it ” hopes a fruitful tenure dedicated to the advancement of sports and recreation for all Zimbabweans, as well as a period of accelerated growth and success for our athletes and all stakeholders within the sports and recreation fraternity.”
