Sithole in Hospital where Dube has been admitted.

A Beitbridge Court has granted an application for hospital examination and treatment by a man suspected of murder who complained of police brutality.

Surprise Dube accused of murdering Vusumusi Mbedzi alleged Criminal Investigation Department officers handling the case assaulted him badly and he needed hospital examination.

Dube made his application through his lawyer Muchihwande Forbes Sithole of Sithole Law Office.

Magistrate Takudzwa Gwazemba granted Dube’s application prompting the Prisons and Correctional Services Department to transfer Dube from Beitbridge Prisons to he Hospital where he was admitted for treatment.

Dube, 31, of Billi Village 2 in the Tuli Policing Area is accused of murder of a friend during a debate of whether or not they should go home after a beer drink.

The debate which allegedly degenerated into violence occurred on June 26 and Dube was arrested almost a month and two days later.

At around 1AM on June 26 this year at Limpopo Business Centre, Dube allegedly hit his friend Mbedzi twice on the head with a metal tyre lever object causing fatal head injuries.

He allegedly disappeared into the darkness leaving the now deceased lying unconscious on the ground.

On July 27, 2026, detectives on patrol in Tuli area picked information about three juveniles in the community who witnessed the murder and wanted to report the accused person but were being intimidated not to disclose.

Detectives identified the two juveniles who narrated that on the fateful day and material time they were seated in the donkey drawn scotch cart parked away from the lights of the bar

The two and their friend who was not located by detectives allegedly saw the now deceased Mbedzi and Dube approaching the latter’s donkey drawn scotch cart arguing over leaving the business centre going home.

According to the juveniles, said the State, Dube was insisting to go home while Mbedzi was against that proposal.

An altercation ensued resulting in Dube taking a tyre lever to hit the now deceased Mbedzi on the head twice.

Police however arrested some other people earlier and Sithole says their case stands on that ground.
