Excitement is in the air as Michael Nees led the Warriors to a crucial 3-1 home victory over Namibia in their AFCON 2025 qualifiers at Orlando Stadium, South Africa.
In his fourth match in charge, Nees saw his squad deliver a solid performance.
Simba Bhora captain Walter Musona netted two goals, while Young Africans’ Prince Dube scored the third goal ending his four years international goal drought. Namibia’s Godwin Eiseb added a late consolation goal.
Before Nees’s arrival, the Warriors were struggling, managing only draws and losses in their last five matches. Now, under his guidance, they stand on the brink of qualification for the AFCON 2025, with two victories against Namibia and two draws with Kenya and the Indomitable Lions.
Zororo Phumulani, the Warriors’ sponsor, took to social media to rally support for the team, celebrating their back-to-back wins.
“What a game! Congratulations to Zimbabwe’s national team on their electrifying performances against Namibia. Unbelievable football. Go Warriors Go!” they posted on Facebook.
With these victories, Nees has instilled a sense of hope among Zimbabwean football fans and analysts, who have been critical of the team’s recent form.
The Warriors now look ahead to their final two matches against Kenya and Cameroon, which will be crucial for securing their spot in Morocco in 2025.
In other matchups, Mozambique secured a 3-0 victory against their neighbors Eswatini, while Kenya suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Cameroon.
