CONSTRUCTION of a Net One booster network has commenced in Maramani Ward 8 in Beitbridge West Constituency following the delivery of materials to the project site.

The development is expected to improve mobile network connectivity in the area.

Beitbridge West Member of Parliament, Thusani Ndou, on Tuesday told Ziyah News Network that mobilization of resources for the project is already underway.

He said materials such as sand, quarry stones and other infrastructure required for the installation of the booster network are being assembled at the site.

Ndou said the booster station is expected to be one of the largest network boosters in Zimbabwe and will significantly improve communication services in Beitbridge West, which has for years experienced poor mobile network coverage.

According to the legislator, the project was implemented under a presidential programme through a legacy project initiative.

He said the development aligns with President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa’s policy of ensuring that no community is left behind in accessing essential services.

Ndou said improved network connectivity will enhance e-learning opportunities for learners in the constituency by providing more reliable access to digital educational resources.

The project is also expected to improve communication for residents and businesses operating in the border district.

Ndou said some communities in Beitbridge West have been relying on foreign mobile networks due to inadequate local coverage.

Areas such as Shashe have often accessed services from Botswana and South Africa based networks, including Vodacom and Orange, because of stronger signals from across the border.

He added that the installation of the NetOne booster network is expected to strengthen national communications infrastructure and contribute to improved security by reducing dependence on foreign telecommunications networks.

Meanwhile, Ndou said no completion date has yet been set for the project, although construction activities have already begun and work is progressing on site.

Once completed, the booster network is expected to bring improved mobile connectivity to thousands of residents in Beitbridge West, enhancing access to communication education and other digital services.
