Beitbridge – The call for stronger partnerships between the business community and local sports took center stage yesterday as Hon. Albert Nguluvhe delivered a keynote address during the Civic Reception of the Minister of State Inter-District Under-20 Youth Games, hosted by the Municipality of Beitbridge at Shamba Gardens.
In his speech, Hon. Nguluvhe urged local businesses to invest more in sports development, particularly in supporting youth initiatives that promote talent and community cohesion. He emphasized that the growth of sport in Beitbridge depends on a shared effort between government, community, and the private sector.
“I call upon the business community to come on board and support the future of our young people through sport,” said Nguluvhe.
“Their support is critical in unlocking the full potential of our local athletes and building a stronger, healthier society.”
He took time to recognize Ziyah Media and its Managing Director, Mr. Loadwell Ziyadumah, for their outstanding contribution to the success of this year’s youth games.
“We are grateful to Ziyah Media for their commitment. Their involvement is proof that when business steps in, great things happen,” he said.
Nguluvhe also praised the Municipality of Beitbridge for its ongoing efforts to promote sports, singling out initiatives such as its support for Dulivhadzimu United Football Club, which plays in the division league, and the annual Beitbridge Marathon.
“From a small local race, the marathon has become a nationally recognized, cross-border event that not only promotes health and sport but also spreads awareness against littering,” he noted.
However, Hon. Nguluvhe highlighted the urgent need for better sports infrastructure in the town. He revealed that the local authority has land earmarked for a 45,000-seater stadium, which he said could transform Beitbridge into a hub for major sporting events.
“A stadium of that size would not only boost local morale but attract high-profile events, raise the town’s profile, and bring in economic opportunities,” he said.
He added that plans for a multi-purpose sports complex are also on the table, with land already available.
“Such a facility would provide our youth with a safe and supportive space to train, compete, and grow. It would be an investment in the character, discipline, and future of our young people.”
Concluding his speech, Hon. Nguluvhe commended the youth who participated in the games for their determination and talent.
“Your energy and achievements are a sign of the bright future that lies ahead. To the coaches, organizers, and officials your hard work has made this event a resounding success.”
He urged the community to continue embracing the spirit of teamwork, discipline, and healthy competition.
“Let this not just be a celebration of sport, but a launchpad for dreams. May the lessons learned here guide you in life and inspire positive change in your communities.”
