The Zimbabwe Warriors’ kit at the COSAFA Cup was a disappointing sight that has left tongues wagging and rightfully so. As the team emerged onto the field against Comoros, their attire lacked the professionalism and flair expected of a national team that are brand ambassadors for the country. The kit resembled something from a social soccer league, not a team representing an entire nation.

It’s no secret that impressions matter, and a national team’s kit is a crucial aspect of their brand and image. When a team takes the field, they carry the aspirations and image of their country, making them tourism ambassadors . This is why sponsors invest heavily in national teams – they have appeal and reach a wide audience.

However, the Warriors’ kit failed to impress, and it’s no wonder they haven’t secured a shirt sponsor. Who would want to associate their brand with such mediocrity? The ZIFA Normalisation committee, sponsored by FIFA, seems to be struggling to present a cohesive brand for Zimbabwean football.

Reports suggest that ZIFA waited until the last minute to order the kit, despite knowing about the tournament well in advance. This lack of planning and organization is nothing new from this leadership, which took six months to appoint a coach for a World Cup qualifier.

One supporter aptly noted that the kit reminded them of Blackpool’s kit from over 30 years ago – a stark reminder of how far behind the Warriors’ branding has fallen. It’s time for ZIFA to step up and invest in a kit that truly represents the spirit and pride of Zimbabwean football.
