ZIMBABWE Information and Broadcasting Minister Soda Zhemu has said downpours that preceed state events are a good omen showing the Gods approve the direction Zimbabwe’s path is leading.
Heavy downpours preceeded Saturday’s Uhuru celebrations and almost threated washing away, the 46th celebrations at Maphisa Growth Point in Matobo where thousands of Zimbabweans converged and braved the rains.

Zhemu, who was joint master of ceremonies with Local Government Minister Daniel Garwe said he had got a hint from traditional leaders that rains before, during and soon after a major event like Saturday’s was approval from above.
“Your excellency President Mnangagwa, I have just made some inquiries about the rains. You are aware that last year on the same date we had rains and this year we have rains again. Traditional leaders and chiefs I have asked said its a positive omen. It means those above are blessing the path Zimbabwe is moving,” he said.
Rains which swept across Matabeleland South and pummelled the venue, a newly built Maphisa Stadium with a capacity of 10 000, done as part of dozens of projects at the small Growth point done in preparation for the country’s 46th anniversary.
The rains could have been a blessing to members of the defence forces whose parade lasted hours and the servicemen may have preferred that than the sapping sun synonymous with the region.
And even in the crowds, he muddy situation did not dampen the mood.
