Esigodini:- A 25-year-old man from Esigodini lost his cool at a party thrown for his return from South Africa and killed his 54-year-old cousin over a petty misunderstanding.

Sekhona Nkomo of Morgan Nkomo’s Homestead Village Head Mhlawempi Tshuma, under Chief Sigola struck Norman Moyo Nkomo with a log twice on the neck causing his death.

According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) on September 9, 2025 at around 2200 hours the deceased Moyo was part of a family gathering drinking beer and braaing to celebrate the return of Nkomo from South Africa.

During the event, a misunderstanding arose between Nkomo and Moyo over a social issue resulting in the former arming himself with a log used to strike Moyo twice on the neck.

The two stayed at the same homestead.

As the part ensued Moyo approached Nkomo telling him that he had sold a cow to the Nkomo’s father but Moyo was accused of robbing his father.

Moyo picked a log and struck Moyo twice on the back of the neck and he fell down his head swelling.

“Norman Moyo sustained a swollen head as a result of the assault and was ferried to Esigodini District Hospital for medical attention, where he was transferred to Mpilo Central Hospital for further management,” ZRP said in a statement.

The matter was reported to Police Esigodini and scene was attended leading to the arrest of the accused.
“On the 17th day of September 2025 at around 1000 hours and at Mpilo Hospital, Norman Moyo succumbed to the injuries sustained as a result of the assault,” ZRP said.
