Harare – ZANU–PF has announced a major reorganisation of its Politburo, with key leadership positions reassigned in a shake-up that party officials say is in line with the constitution.
Announcing the changes on Tuesday, party spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa said President and First Secretary Emmerson Mnangagwa exercised his constitutional mandate to restructure the Politburo.
As part of the reshuffle, Parliamentary Speaker Advocate Jacob Francis Nzwidamilimo Mudenda, who had been serving as Treasurer-General, has been elevated to the influential post of Secretary-General of the party.
Patrick Chinamasa, formerly Secretary for Legal Affairs, moves into the Treasurer-General’s office, taking charge of ZANU–PF’s finances. Dr Obert Moses Mpofu, the outgoing Secretary-General, has been reassigned to head the Information Communication Technology (ICT) portfolio. Meanwhile, Ziyambi Ziyambi, who had been in charge of ICT, has been appointed as Secretary for Legal Affairs.
“These changes are effective immediately,” Mutsvangwa said, stressing that the reorganisation “underscores the Party’s enduring commitment to its constitution.”
