Zimbabwe will proudly host the 10th edition of the Africa and Indian Ocean Aviation Week (AFI Week) from May 26 to 30, 2025, in the iconic resort city of Victoria Falls.

This flagship annual event, organized by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), serves as a crucial platform for aviation stakeholders across Africa to engage in sector priorities and collaboratively tackle the unique challenges facing the continent’s aviation industry.

This year’s AFI Week is anticipated to draw more than 500 delegates, which includes over 300 international participants from 54 ICAO member states and around 200 local attendees.

The central theme will focus on “promoting sustainable growth, regional cooperation, and infrastructural development within African airspace.”

In a statement, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development confirmed that preparations are progressing well, emphasizing the importance of the upcoming event.

“It is highly anticipated that the AFI Week 2025 will be hosted under the patronage of His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Cde. Dr. E.D. Mnangagwa. Both the President of ICAO, His Excellency, Mr. S. Sciacchitano, and Secretary General of ICAO, His Excellency, Mr. J.C. Salazar, will also attend the AFI Week 2025,” the statement read.

AFI Week will feature a diverse program of meetings, symposiums, and workshops, addressing key topics such as air navigation, safety oversight, infrastructure investment, environmental protection, and the strengthening of regional ties in air transport.

Zimbabwe’s role as host showcases its growing presence in the African aviation landscape. The Airports Company of Zimbabwe (ACZ), a state-owned entity, manages crucial international and regional airports, including Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport, Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport, and Victoria Falls International Airport, along with smaller facilities like Buffalo Range, Kariba, Masvingo, Hwange National Park, and Charles Prince Airport.

ACZ is responsible for providing essential infrastructure and services for aircraft, passengers, cargo, and baggage, ensuring the safety, security, and commercial development of the nation’s aviation sector.

Hosting the AFI Week signifies a major achievement for Zimbabwe’s aviation aspirations and is expected to enhance tourism and attract investment in Victoria Falls and the surrounding areas, further establishing the region as a prime destination for international visitors.
